HAAN President

A message from our President...

Nigerian healthcare sector is growing at a rapid rate. With surging growth in this sector, the demand for professionally trained healthcare managers is also on the rise. A well-managed healthcare leads to superior quality health outcomes and satisfied patients. Currently in Nigeria, there is a severe paucity of professionally trained healthcare administrators. Very few academic institutes are focused on producing professional healthcare administrators for our settings. Lack of a professional healthcare administrator does not allow medical staff to solely focus on medical care. This may result in efficiency and poorer outcomes for the health institution. ack of trained administrators also results in inadequate second line of leadership in many health institutions and poses a serious challenge to sustainability of the health institutions. Thus, a professional healthcare administrator has a pivotal role in a growing healthcare sector that is driven to serve the people.

As a result of severe paucity of professionally trained healthcare administrator in Nigeria, many health institutions, senior practicing doctors are also performing the role of administrator. However, it places a significant demand on these doctors, making it difficult for them to devote adequate time to both clinical and administrative work. As a result, either clinical or administrative work gets neglected, ultimately resulting in poor quality of care and/or poor patient satisfaction. Lack of trained administrators also result in inadequate second line of leadership in many health institutions and pose a serious challenge to the sustainability of healthcare initiative taken by the health institutions. Hence, professionally qualified healthcare administrators not only have a very good career prospects but also are pivotal to the growth of health institutions in Nigeria. They will have self-satisfaction of serving the suffering people in time of need in the health institutions. It is against this background that I invite the good people in the healthcare industry to join hands with us to take the institute to the next level.
